Your Body is Your Temple

February 11th, 2013 Posted in Uncategorized

You already have the most advanced fitness machine ever created, your own body. It saddens me to see people waste all their money on these silly fitness gadgets. There is a new one every week, think about it. The Ab roller, the shake weight, the Ding Dong ab press and the list goes on and on.

It amazes when I walk into a nice home and see it’s proud, out of shape and overweight owner. Your true home is not your apartment, your house or your mansion, ever in life. Your true home is your own physical body. Your soul and your psyche reside there and will as long as you are alive and on this earth. Tell me honestly what on this earth is more important than that? It is the single most important thing you can take care of. You are never without your body.

My German Shepard is in incredible shape and he doesn’t go to the gym or lift weights. He exercises with me when we go to the park. He sprints after squirrels. You know what one of the strongest animals on the planet are? Monkeys, such as Chimpanzees and Orangutangs. They are way stronger than humans. They do not go on treadmills and lift weights and do crunches. They pull their own body weight.

I started re-inventing myself 3 years ago and I started with something Monkeys do. A little something called pullups:

Pulling up my own body weight

Here I am pulling up my own body weight

At first I could only knock out a few. After 6 weeks I could do 12 and I can do up to 30 now. I do not need a gym to do pullups, pushups or squats. I am also in better shape than most personal trainers and supposed fitness gurus. I only work out 20 minutes 4 times a week and just walk with my dog 6 days a week, that’s it.

It is an insane notion to think that we were created to require machines to get our bodies in shape. The fact that people fall for all these gimmicks and silly gym memberships just shows how out of touch we are with our own body and it’s own massive inner potential.

This is the same way I play and approach music. I teach people to trust their instincts and learn to play by ear. You could take away all my guitars, pianos and guitar amps and throw me in jail. It would not matter because I still have my body and my body is my instrument. I can sing and hum every tune I know without any instrument present at all. Like I always say, “How you do anything is how you do everything.” So choose carefully the things that are most important to you in your life and then spend your time doing that. Tune everyone else out that says you can’t do that. Fire those friends and hang around the ones that encourage and help you.

Life is way too short to be spent in the company of morons. I stand guard at the door of my mind. I don’t read gossip or the news. I read from great books everyday. I also don’t eat fast food. I eat slow food and I do not eat anything from a box or a can. I eat real food that occurs naturally in nature. I tell people eat Italian food. I recently found out my dad was a full blooded Italian and now this all makes sense to me. I bet if you asked people if they could only choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of their days a lot of folks would say “Italian.”

It makes sense it taste great and it’s known that The Mediterranean cuisine is one of the healthiest. Fresh fruits and seasonal vegetables, you get some grains with pasta (De Cecco Spaghetti, 16 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 5)
is the best) and olive oil is a great source of fat. You get small amounts of veal, lamb, beef and chicken and red wine is good for you as well as chocolate.

I wish you all the best health in 2013 and remember that being healthy is the penultimate way to be kind to yourself. Thanks for all the e-mails, keep them coming I love hearing from all of you.

Much Love,

Eric

    Thanks, Eric.
I tend to agree on all you’ve said here.
Speaking of great Italian food, you remind me of a wonderful movie, “Big Night” about two Italian brothers and their restaurant venture. If you’ve not seen it, you must.
    Grace & peace,
