The intelligence within you is the same intelligence that created the entire planet.
I was working with an up and coming guitarist recently who is very good. He confided in me that he has an incredible amount of stage fright. I taught him something I have used my whole life that I learned from an incredible attorney.
Turn the problem on itself.
So I simply told him that he should be frightful of stage fright. I got the blank stare I always get when I go there with my approach to supposed problems. The word problem is not even in my vocabulary, haven’t used the word for years, so I don’t have a lot of respect for it when it comes across my mental dashboard. He looked at me and said “That’s counter intuitive” most things in life are. That’s why directing our thoughts is accessing the true magician that’s inside of all of us. We are capable of so much more when we believe in ourselves. We’re getting to the true root of his challenge. Notice how I do not use the word problem. It’s never the stage fright. It’s not loving and believing in yourself, even if no one else does.
This kid is kind of obsessive compulsive. A lot of very talented people are. It takes a lot of obsession and compulsion to become good at anything. What I am emphasizing is the role we play as the director in the movie that is our life. You were given a will to exert and directly focus your mind wherever you so may choose. It’s what I told this kid.
Use your O.C.D. to your advantage.
Become O.C.D. about not being O.C.D.
You are the only thinker in your mind. Simply redirect your thoughts. It’s that simple. It’s really that fucking simple. The mind is an amazing thing; it does exactly what you tell it to do. Being addicted to anything is simply pimping out your power to that thing. That’s why it’s called a tool. What do they call a guy who doesn’t fucking get it and is kind of a jack ass? They call him a tool- “That guy’s a tool.”
No person, place or thing has ever had any control over you, or ever did anything to you. You simply allowed it by not directing your mind. You are the only thinker in your mind, and you tell it exactly what to do. It is that simple. Nothing has any meaning except the meaning you give it.
The following YouTube video of an excellent comedian named Bob Newhart demonstrates, with great fortitude and moxie, exactly what I’m saying. This clip exemplifies this phenomenon with a great sense of humor.
Here is an example of how powerful directing your thoughts can be.
Mother Theresa expressed that she would never attend an anti-war rally, but that she would always be happy to attend a pro-peace rally. This characteristic present within this amazing individual shows the power and importance of standing guard at the door of your consciousness while deliberately and discerningly directing your words, energy and thoughts.
