Decision Making Power

The word decision is derived directly from it’s roots in Latin. It comes from the word dēcīdere which means-

To cut off

This is a powerful muscle that must be exercised. You know if you don’t use it you lose it. We all intellectually understand that our physical muscles atrophy when they are not used. Lest we fail to realize equally our mental muscle of decision making power is capable of the same fate when not exercised.

I have been practicing this lately in my own life when going out to eat at a restaurant. After my friends and I have sat down, ordered a drink, and the waiter brings our menus I simply open the menu and assertively make a quick decision as to what entree catches my eye. I decide, close the menu and set it down.

That muscle is sharp now as I sharpen the saw more every time I do it.

Life is really simple. Most people just don’t know what they want in life. When you know what you want it sets up structural tension between where you are (reality) and where you want to go (dream.) We tend to go in the direction we are pulled. Why not create your life as a work of art and set up to be pulled in the direction you want to go by your decisions.

You are your attention

There is a distinct shift that occurs when a thought changes from “Oh that would be cool” to “I am going to do THAT!” It takes courage, and a clear vision of your future to be able to make wise decision and stick with them.
